A TEN day cruise visiting ports of Greece, Greek islands and Turkey, departing from Venice on 20 of October and 10 of November, Saturday afternoon.

Piraeus is the port for Athens, where you can step from the shadow of the Acropolis into the world of the modern day Olympics. Sip a coffee with ouzo and join the Greeks in a toast to a new "golden age".

At Venice make a private visit to the Peggy Guggenheirn Museum, take a motor launch tour to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. Or indulge in a classic gondola serenade in the most romantic city on earth.

Iraklion, the capital town of Crete and its principal commercial port is just three miles away from the fantastic ruins of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered in 1899 by Sir Arthur Evans and partialy reconstructed, the elaborate palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan Culture. The Archaeological Museum of Iraklion displays many of the treasures found during the excavations.

The ruins of ancient Korinth are spread out at the foot of the huge rock of Acrocorinth. The monuments are mainly Roman and only a few are Greek. You can trace the Long Walls which began at the summit of Acrocorinth and descended all the way to Lechaion, the artificial harbour on the Corinthian Gulf.

The modern era of material and cultural development in Thessaloniki dates from its liberation in 1912, when Thessaloniki became the capital city of Northern Greece. The Ministry of Northern Greece, the Cathedral, the Court of Justice, in addition to other major government institutions, are situated today in the city. The town has today two quite distinct sectors: The "old town", continuously undergoing reconstruction, and the modern sector, whose many modern buildings are examples of advanced architecture.

Witness Ephesus-one of the greatest cities of antiquity and one of the best restored on an optional tour from Kusadasi. Walk along the marble paving, you can almost hear the steps of marching Roman region or the ardent preaching of St. Paul addressing the Ephesians.

Straddling the Golden Horn between Europe and Asia, this venerable city of Istanbul blends ageless antiquity with dazzling modernity. Visit in Agia Sofia, the Top Kapi and many more interesting places.

AEGEAN SUMMER CRUISES
ISTANBUL
Agia Sofia, Istanbul, Turkey
Agia Sofia
As you approach Istanbul from the sea, the graceful minarets of countless mosques appear on the horizon and the Islamic call to prayer carries over the water. Istanbul's blend of East and West has resulted in some of the most magnificent architecture in the world including the Agia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. At the Topkapi museum, formerly the Sultan's Palace, the treasures of the Ottoman empire are on view. Bargain for your own treasures in one of the Grand Bazaar's 4000 shops.

MINOS THRONE
Minos Throne, Iraklion, Crete, Greece
Athens
A frequent expression encountered by the reader of  Minoan Crete is that of the Minoan Palace. The term was first used by the British Archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans who excavated the site of Knossos in the beginning of the century, and is maintained ever since. The truth is that we know nothing about the form of government of Minoan Crete. There may have been a priest-king or priestess-queen or a board of priests. In the absence of written records, it is impossible to tell anything with certainty. Yet we are not helpless because archaeology can tell us something about the elusive Minoan society.
