Buzios

Buzios or Armacao dos Buzios, located on the north coast of Rio de Janeiro State, were originally a small fishermen village. The native tribe of Tamoios used to live here, but it was taken over by French pirates later on.

Buzios, Azeda Beach

Brigitte Bardot added to the fame of Buzios with her visit in the 60s. Today, it is one of the most sophisticated places in Brazil, offering very high quality tourism services to meet the most demanding preferences of both Brazilian and international visitors.

There are about 20 beaches of incomparable beauty in Buzios. Historical, cultural and eco tours are available for the adventurous. It is an excellent place to practice diving, and perfect for those searching for peace along the day and an exciting night life.

The climate of the region is less dry, semiarid. The average annual temperature is around 21ºC, with average annual high of 28ºC and average annual low of 18ºC.

In Buzios there are just over 18,000 inhabitants.

Rio de Janeiro is 176 km from Buzios, Cabo Frio 24 km and Sao Paulo 596 kms.

It takes about 2 hours to get here from Rio de Janeiro after crossing the Rio - Niteroi Bridge.

Buzios Airport receives regular flights from Guarulhos Airport, in Sao Paulo State, or from Santos Dumont, in Rio de Janeiro State - all Fridays and Sundays, in multi engine aircrafts, last generation turbojet, for 19 passengers. Private and non regular aircrafts use Umberto Modiano Airport, also in Armacao dos Buzios.

Marina Porto Buzios offers a sophisticated structure to receive boats safely. For just filling up, a good option is Veleiro Port, at Armacao Beach.

Buzios Golf Club Búzios Golf Club is a field with first-level 18 holes. The field was designed by renowned architects Pete and Perry Dye, and attracts players from all over the world. Considered as one of the best fields in Latin America, the field was designed in such way to incorporate the value the geographical accidents of the terrain, the surrounding nature and topography, in order to offer the highest possible level of comfort to the players.

Joao Fernandinho is a small beach with calm and transparent water, where local bars serve good fish and lobster. Joao Fernandinho Beach can be reached through Joao Fernandes Beach.

Azeda and Azedinha Beaches are two of the most beautiful beaches of Brazil. The area recently became an Environmental Protection Area (APA), and all kiosks and bars were taken away from there. It has calm and transparent water. It can be accessed via "aqua-taxi" or walking through a small track, both from Ossos Beach.

Brava Beach with its strong all year waves attracts surfers. A small parth on the right side of the beach will lead you to Olho de Boi, a naturist beach.

Tartaruga Beach has calm waters and usually the warmest water of the region, because it does not receive the cold currents from Antarctic. It has several kiosks and good places to practice snorkeling.

Geriba Beach is the place of beautiful and tanned people, and exciting nightlife. The beach has waves in almost its entire front, except at the left side, where there is a path to access Ferradurinha Beach.

Canto Beach with warm water, frequently receives winds from the East. Its right side is the scenery of several restaurants on Rua das Pedras and its left side, walking on the stones you can access two other small beaches: Amores and Virgens.

Armacao Beach along Rua das Pedras and Bardot Border, is almost without sand. Highlights are Caboclo Island and the pier, where tourists from several transatlantic ships come to the city during summer. Two sculptures, both made of bronze, are the attractions, one honors Brigitte Bardot and one honors the fishermen.

Ossos Beach, according to local stories, got this name (Bones) from the whale bones found on the sand. Full of small fishing boats, with trees along its border, is a post card landscape. Do not miss Santana Church and Buzios Yacht Club, located on the left side of the beach. On the opposite side, there is a track that leads to Azeda Beach.
