Waterloo Road is located in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark; on the south bank of the River Thames and is close to the BA London Eye, Waterloo Station and a well known area called the South Bank.
Waterloo Station used to be home to the Eurostar until it moved to its new home in St Pancreas Station in 2007. It is still a major station as it caters for the areas of West England. Waterloo station is also part of the London Underground, with three of the underground lines running from it, Bakerloo, Northern line, and the Victoria line.
The saying that is used for rendezvous for friends and lovers "meet you under the clock" was first used by people who met under the large four-faced clock which hangs in the middle of the main square at Waterloo Station, a good place to meet a blind date, so the saying became "meet you under the clock at Waterloo". This saying has been used by people for decades and is still used today.
On the South Bank is the Royal Elizabeth Hall which is a music venue, which hosts jazz, classical and experimental music as well as dance performances. The Royal Festival Hall is a much bigger hall than both the Royal Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room, it is also a grade I building. The Purcell hosts poetry, jazz, mime and chamber music in its much smaller room which seats 370.
The Hayworth is another building within the complex of South Bank and is a gallery which recently has hosted contemporary art, by people like Dan Flavin and Antony Gormley. The National Film Theatre and The London Television Centre (where programs for London are made) are near by as is the OXO Tower that has crafts shops on the ground floor and a great restaurant on the eight floor.
BA London Eye has become one of London's newest land mark since it was opened in 2000, the views from the eye are amazing, Ken Livingstone the mayor of London has used the London Eye as a focal point for the New Years Eve fireworks and if you are visiting London during this time it is a must in your schedule.
The Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is near by Waterloo Station as is Borough Market. The Old Vic Theatre opened in 1818 and renamed in honour of Queen Victoria in 1833 is within walking distance and has seen some of the greatest British Actors tread the boards.
