In the sixties, the building, after improvements, became a Pousada after a renovation. The room in which Saint Queen Isabel died in 1336 is now a small chapel in her memory.

The high quality of building materials used has been completed with the finest decor including museum pieces. From the private palace gardens and swimming pool surrounded by battlements with panoramic views.

The hotel features 29 rooms with 18th Century decoration, all have been individually designed and many have four poster beds and locally made rugs on the floor.

Dining in Portugal is usually very good and the restaurant of the Pousada is no exception. It serves a variety of dishes including a selection of local and regional specialties in a royal space. At certain periods the Pousada can arrange "18th Century" evening by request.

The bar is located in the D. Vasco da Gama Saloon offering an intimate setting very comfortable where you can enjoy the piano music and drinks. The bar has a beautiful esplanade in the interior garden.

There is also a large swimming pool surrounded by terrace, meeting and banqueting facilities are available with technical support at your disposal.

Activities in the area include hunting, country walks, cycling and theme tours and visit the little white marble town of Borba and sample the locally produced wine which is considered to be one of the best in the country or, spend a leisurely few hours browsing through the numerous antique shops.
