Set in the heart of Berlin, close to the German Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, the Potsdamer Platz, the Museum Island, the German State Opera, concert halls and theatres as well as Europe's largest variety theatre, the Friedrichstadtpalast.
The Maritim Pro Arte Hotel in Berlin was built as an avant-garde architectural showcase in the mid-1970s by the then East German government. Today, despite frequent renovations, it still evokes a jazzy, modern, and vaguely dated kind of architecture that features lots of chrome and stainless steel.
There's a bustle here, however, thanks in part to a hardworking and polite staff, and a regular clientele of business clients and conventioneers. Avant-garde artwork is exhibited throughout, and Phillipe Starck created some of the furniture.
The rooms are individually designed, soothing, uncluttered, and comfortable. Most provide a fax outlet and all have reclining chairs. Each unit comes with a good-size private bathroom and other modern amenities.
