Dating back to the 12th Century, the house became a hotel shortly after Word War II and has been undergoing a programme of refurbishment for the past couple of years.
There is also a ghostly double act in the Maryculter House Hotel in Aberdeen that is said to make an occasional appearance at Martyculter Godfrey Wedderburn, a Knight Templar, and his Saracen lady friend.
Godfrey met her while on one of the Crusades. She had saved his life and when she accompanied him to Maryculter, the Preceptor refused to believe the relationship was platonic, and Godfrey was condemned to die by his own hand. Wedderburn and his Saracen lady manifest themselves annually on the night of the catastrophe.
