Facing the Matterhorn at the heart of the Gornergrat skiing and hiking district and lying at 2,222 meters above sea level, it offers unique alpine panorama in a favourable microclimatic conditions. The Resort is reached by the Gornergrat railway which is just across the road from Zermatt's main railway station.
The first Grand Hotel was built in 1878–1884, but completely destroyed by fire in 1961. In 1988 until 1998, the Riffelalp Resort Hotel opened again to visitors with a total of 140 beds in 65 double rooms, 5 suites, plus 2 apartments all including modern conveniences and decorated with taste.

This member of "The Leading Hotels of the World" proposes on premises the Alexandre restaurant serving delicious menus and a la carte dishes; it is open for lunch and dinner. The Walliser Keller, homey atmosphere for sampling local specialties, such as cheese fondue and raclette from the open fire. Les Terrasses restaurant offers ski hut favourites to high cuisine.

For drinks and entertainment, the Piano Bar Lodge a cosy lobby with spacious bar area, ideal place to start the evening or to enjoy a relaxing break and the wine bar also available in a traditional cellar for a wines tasting.

You can visit the wellness centre; "St.-Trop-Alp" with indoor pool and Europe's highest outdoor heated swimming pool, stone steam bath, stone grotto, and dream-time-world welcome you. Enjoy the wide choice of massages and body treatments. In winter: ski in, ski out, in-house ski man, equipment rental, daily excursions with ski guide, ice skating and curling.

For business traveller’s concert and conference halls are at your disposal with a capacity up to 150 people.
