Mayfair

Mayfair is at the heart of Central London and it derives its name from the 15 day fair that was held in the area. This area has been owned by the Grosvenor family since 1677. The fair was stopped by the aristocratic citizens of Mayfair.

The aristocrats felt it was attracting undesirable people from poorer areas of London. The London area of Mayfair is situated between Oxford Street, Regents Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane. The properties in Mayfair are very large and desirable - the area has always attracted the rich and powerful.

Mayfair is close to many beautiful parks and historic squares and the areas elite residents have attracted the worldÂ’s finest shops and the most exclusive businesses.

Saville Row a road that runs parallel to Regent Street is world famous for its quality of tailors and materials. Men have what is known as a "bespoke" suit that are specifically made for them and personalities as Prince Charles get their suits from the appropriate named street "the golden mile of tailoring".

Visitors to Mayfair may wish to visit Shepherds Market- a pedestrianised maze of coffee shops, pubs and restaurants just off Piccadilly. Mayfair also boasts the capital's most exclusive shops, hotels (the wonderful art deco style of The Park Lane Hotel, the exclusive Westbury Mayfair, the peaceful but heavenly Millennium Mayfair) restaurants and clubs. Mayfair is dominated in the north by three large squares: Grosvenor, Hanover and Berkeley, with Grosvenor square being the home of the American Embassy. Many other Embassies call Mayfair home.

What can the astute visitor to Mayfair find to do next, how about Tea at The Dorchester, or a stroll up Park Lane where one can get close to the McLaren F1 car on display, one of the most expensive cars you can buy at ₤500.000 or meander in the evening to the Hilton for an incredible view of the capital at night.

Locations near that might entice the visitor away from wonderful Mayfair would be Regent's Park or perhaps the quirkiness of Camden Town; both are only a short distance from Mayfair.
