Knightsbridge

Knightsbridge known the world over as the home of Harrods! Knightsbridge is probably best known for Harrods as well as Harvey Nichols, as you arrive at the Knightsbridge station, you take the tunnel from the station to the entrance of Harrods.

For the Harvey Nichols store you should take the entrance for Sloane Street. All the big name fashion designers can be found on Sloane Street, for a more personal and individual approach to your shopping at some equally stylish shops but on a smaller scale, travel to Beauchamp Place.

Depending on ones taste of food, you would not have to go very far if you were in Harvey Nichols, as they have a wonderful restaurant and bar on their fifth floor and a great Japanese restaurant Wagamama, on their lower ground floor. If you love Japanese try also Zuma, but if Italian is more to your liking go to either the Spaghetti House, or Floriance. For culture there is the famous and very beautiful Royal Albert Hall were concerts such as the Proms (classical concerts) are played every year, where also many other concerts are put on as well as sporting events. There are quite a few auctioneers such as Bonham's and many small boutiques to suit all tastes. The Serpentine gallery in Hyde Park is within walking distance from Harrods and near by is the museums of Science, Natural History, and the Victoria and Albert. The Albert Memorial is also near by.

Knightsbridge is not only the home of Harrods and Harvey Nichols but is also one of the richest areas in the whole of London, and home to some of the richest people, and it has some of the highest property prices in the world. It has 14 out of the 200 most expenses streets in Britain and properties sell at the staggering price of over 25.000.000 million pounds, with one apartment going for an exuberant 100.000.000 million pounds to a Qatari Prince. If you need a parking space and have 300.000 pounds to spare then one may be available for you. Many of the more luxurious hotels are also in Knightsbridge such as that of the Millennium Knightsbridge Hotel, and the Sheraton Park Tower Hotel (both being in the heart of the fashionable London area of Knightsbridge).

Two of the richest men in Britain the Duke of Westminster and the Earl Cadogan are two of the largest landowners of the locality, and their properties can actually be easily located as the Cadogan Estate is of red brick in the Queen Anne style and the Grosvenor (the Duke of W.) Estates are that of white stucco fronted houses. The most sought after areas in Knightsbridge is that of the squares near Harrods where many millionaires, billionaires and celebrities use Harrods as their corner shop.

Knightsbridge has many notable residents. This includes many British and European socialites and aristocrats. There are also trend-setters like Charles Saatchi, and his television presenter wife, Nigella Lawson. The famed fashion designers Valentino and Tom Ford of Gucci also live in the area. Film stars such as Hugh Grant, Sean Connery, and Joan Collins live here, with many artists, presenters, musicians, models and writers also residing in Knightsbridge. Princess Diana was actually raised in the vicinity as was Sienna Miller and Ian Fleming creator of James Bond.

Other more notorious residence of the district were Freddie Mercury the late singer and front man of the band Queen who lived here till his death and Ruth Ellis the last woman ever to be hanged in Britain, for a crime of passion.

Locations very near Knightsbridge that offer the captivated visitor perhaps a different feel to London may be Chelsea or Hyde Park. Slightly further out is Hammersmith which would take about 15 minutes on London Underground.
