Marble Arch

Marble Arch the doorway to a shopper’s paradise!! Marble Arch is a marble monument near Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park, at the western end of Oxford Street in London, near the tube station of the same name (central line).

Marble Arch was designed by John Nash and is based on the Arch of Constantine of Rome. There are three rooms in the arch, used previously by the police but now used for private parties and recently by the television program Master Chef for their final.

The area around the arch not only connects Oxford Street, but Park Lane, Bayswater Road, and Edgware Road.

The home of the largest cinema screen in London, the Odeon Marble Arch was originally over 75 feet wide, the Odeon showcased 70 mm films in a large circle and stalls auditorium. The cinema was converted into a mini-plex in 1997. The area is also near to the largest Marks & Spencer store in the United Kingdom.

The arch stands close to the site of the Tyburn gallows (sometimes called "Tyburn Tree"), a place of public execution where men women were hung, drawn and quartered from 1388 until 1783. Located on the north-eastern fringe of Hyde Park (just next to Marble Arch), Speakers' Corner is the famous spot where soapbox orators sound-off on all manner of topics, hecklers mock and bystanders look on in amusement. This is an interesting and an amusing place to be and be seen on a Sunday morning. If you were staying at the The Cumberland Hotel (Great Cumberland Place) you may even be able to watch the hecklers from your bedroom window.

Locations very near that offer shopping and more and more shopping and entertainment are Oxford Street, Bond Street, Regents Street, Tottenham Court Road and Piccadilly Circus.
