The ruins of the royal villa in this location are perhaps one more summer retreat.
Many remarkable items from this site are exposed in the Iraklion Archaeological Museum including the unique sarcophagus made of the Agia Triada stone.
On one of the long sides there is a scene where a priestess or a queen with a crown, who may perhaps be the widow of the dead man, is carrying buckets full of sacrificed blood, to give to another priestess in front of her; the latter is emptying them between two double axes with birds on top of them.
