Lugano is built along the shore of
Lake Lugano, which is situated between the lakes
Lago Maggiore and
Lago di Como. The city is located where the
River Cassarate enters the lake between the
San Salvatore (925m) and the
Bre (912m) mountains. The low mountains protect it from cold alpine winds, and the climate is ideal from March to November.
The Italian influence is evident in the city's cafes, sunny piazzas, cobblestone streets, and arcades; it is a city designed for walking, where you can wander at leisure, exploring its historical old streets.
