Zurich is an important commercial and manufacturing centre with its many private banks and is the world's primary centre for offshore banking, mainly due to Swiss bank secrecy. Major productions include printed materials, electrical and electronic equipment, processed food, machinery, textiles, and clothing; it is also one of Europe's principal financial and gold-trading centres and attracts many tourists.

Zurich is a beautiful city, which has retained much of its historical charm, sitting astride the Limmat River, where it merges with the Lake of Zurich; it has a charming old town, which is full of magically restored historical buildings and narrow, hilly alleys and from the distance snowy mountains overlook the waters of the lake.

The city of Zurich is crisscrossed by lovely low bridges, on the left bank of the city, you will find the main train station The Hauptbahnhof and the Bahnhofstrasse one of the most beautiful shopping areas in Europe with elegant fashion stores, department stores and boutiques with top quality products. The right bank is the site of the Altstadt or Old Town, and for many visitors this section of Zurich has far greater atmosphere.

Points of interest include;
St. Peter's, which is the oldest church in Zurich; it stands close by the ruins of a late Roman fortress at the Lindenhof and has Europe's largest church clock face (8.7 m diameter).
The Fraumunster; a stunning old church founded in 853 by King Louis the German, it has the largest organ in the canton (5,793 pipes) and its most stunning jewels are the stained glass windows.
Niederdorf is a pedestrian zone and a shopper's paradise with lots of boutiques hidden away in a patchwork of alleys. At night the many bars, restaurants and street artists turn the Niederdorf into an exciting centre of entertainment for a colourful public.

Other interesting places to visit are; the Lindenhof, the Grossmunster Church, the Opera House, Kunsthaus Zurich, Swiss National Museum, in fact Zurich has something for everyone.
