Opera House, four theatres and a variety theatre.
Situated in the
Mitteldeutschland region of Germany, with its rich industrial traditions, Halle and Leipzig, only 38 km (24 miles) away from the nucleus of a wide area constituting an economic metropolis, in which service industries and technology centres predominate. A considerable number of scientific institutions are also located in
Halle. The best known local products are
Hallorenkugel chocolates, Kathi cake mix and railway rolling stock built at
Ammendorf.
There are over
71 km² of water and greenery within the city boundaries. 124 sports clubs with facilities in 63 places as well as five sets of tennis courts are available. One can also, however, spend free time delightfully in the zoo, the botanical garden, at the race course, on the
Peissnitz Island in the
Saale, along the banks of the river or in one of the five cinemas.
