The thermal saltwater wells up from a depth of 1018 metres at a temperature of 35°C. With a salt content of 3 per cent, the saltwater has a stimulating effect on the whole body and helps to improve circulation. Treatment is offered for the following: cardiovascular disease, muscular-skeletal illnesses, rheumatic diseases, respiratory tract diseases, gynaecological illnesses, metabolic disorders, and diseases of the nervous system, skin complaints, psychosomatic fatigue, general weakness and convalescence.

Now a state spa and mineral spa in the Teutoburg Forest, Bad Salzuflen first became known in the middle of the 11th century through its lucrative salt trade. Situated in the Salze Valley, it has a wealth of magnificent patrician town houses and a wonderful old quarter dating from the Weser Renaissance period. There are a number of impressive buildings in the spa district including the spa centre and the pump room.

Bad Salzuflen is not just a town surrounded by charming countryside. Evidence of its salt-producing history can be seen in its name and at every turn when strolling around the town. The concert hall boasts outstanding acoustics and an excellent musical programme. The Town and Spa Museum illustrates the spa's development into a modern 20th century resort. A leisurely stroll along the spa's salt-evaporation works is as beneficial as a walk by the sea.

The diverse countryside around Bad Salzuflen in the Teutoburg Forest is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna. The spa gardens and Country Park are one of the largest areas of parkland in Germany. Leopoldsprudel spring was the first spa attraction to be established in Bad Salzuflen. The Saltwater Route runs for approx. 90 kilometres from the Wittekindsland region to the places associated with this "white gold".
