Ueberlingen was supposedly founded in 1180 by Emperor Friedrich I of Barbarossa. A tour through the historic old town leads through the
Franciscan gate which was constructed in 1494 and is one of the most
beautiful Gothic city gates in the Lake Constance region. The St. Nicholas Minster (1350-1562), the largest late-Gothic church on
Lake Constance, is the town's famous landmark. The magnificent high altar by the Ueberlingen master sculptor
Joerg Zuern is also particularly impressive.
