Madeira was known to Romans as the “Purple Islands”, were rediscovered and subsequently inhabited by the Portuguese on the 15th century.
Owing to their mild climate, a good infrastructure avoiding over exploitation, they are a popular all year round holiday destination favoured by European holidaymakers.
