Vauxhall is an inner city area in the Borough of Lambeth. One of the big attractions that have been in Vauxhall since 1662 is Vauxhall Gardens; the gardens were used throughout the centuries for picnics and for people to go to see and to be seen.
Samuel Pepys (an MP that was famous for his published diaries) wrote about Vauxhall and the Gardens in 1662, "that it was a place where the whole family could go and enjoy being together and also where young people of different sexes could meet without the restrictions of the time".
Vauxhall as a location to live in is very popular with Members of Parliament as it is very close to Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. While housing in Vauxhall is of social housing, there are some areas which are being redeveloped and prices are going up.
There are various things to do in Vauxhall throughout the year, for children there is the Polka Theatre that is specifically for children and young people, Vauxhall City Farm is wonderful as the animals are friendly, as they are used to being petted by children, there are different pools, both for indoor and outdoor swimming, as well as many good parks in the area, Battersea Park is well worth a short journey as it has a childrens zoo, boating lake, adventure playground, cafe and lots more.
The Imperial War Museum is a place that one has to visit while staying in Vauxhall; it does not glorify war but tries to teach the visitor different aspects of war. Another wonderful museum is the Museum Of Garden History in the restored church of St Mary near Lambeth Palace the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
For entertainment in the Vauxhall area, there are two fringe theatres, The White Bear Theatre Club and the Oval House Theatre which hosts a variety of plays and is where Pierce Brosnan (a former James Bond 007) started his career, and of course Lambeth Palace which is open to the public on certain days.
A fun thing do to for both adults and children would be to go on the London Duck Tours which uses amphibious (can travel on land and water) vehicles, they give the visitor a drive around Westminster than there is the excitement of splashing into the Thames for a sail down to Westminster Bridge and back to Lacks Dock. An amazing way to see the area.

Locations near Vauxhall that will offer the visitor different views of London are Victoria, St James Park and Sloan Square which only take about 10-15 minutes on the London Underground.
