Pella is located in the heart of Macedonia and is one of the most attractive areas in the whole of Greece. The region which gave rise to the Macedonian kings Phillipos and Alexander has a rich archaeological history. The county is famous for its archaeological findings, the most important of which are the city of Pella (the first capital of the country of Macedonia), the ancient city of Edessa and the Macedonian tombs in Pella and Gianitsa.

In ancient times the entire county was traversed by the historic Egnatia road. Archaeological excavations of the ancient town started in 1914 and it was revealed that Pella developed from the beginning of the 4th century B.C. and thrived for three centuries. The excavations have provided an abundance of findings that attest to the way of life of the residents, the architectural style of the buildings and temples, the art and decor of the time, their religious life as well as the structure of the tombs during the era.

In the mountains of the region one can come across an array of alternative holidays available to the holidaymaker. Examples of these include the town of Edessa and the waterfalls there, the ski centre in Vora, the spa, cave and gorge in Loutraki and last but not least Lake Vegoritida. The traditional villages of Agios Athanasios, Arhangelos and Kromni also deserve a mention. Finally, let's not forget the canoeing centre in Loudia.

The area rests in a beautiful natural environment and there are many paths available for those interested in walking through the mountains.
